LSU considers on-campus brewery

Beer and colleges go hand in hand. At Louisiana State University, that situation might become even more hands-on if a proposal to build a micro-brewery ON CAMPUS goes through.

LSU Chancellor Michael Martin, whose school regularly is named one of the nation's top party schools in campus polls, has unveiled a proposal to build a microbrewery to serve as a laboratory for food science students and a training center for aspiring brewers.

The plans are in a preliminary stage, as legal and logistical matters are studied, including how to make the beer available for sale on campus.

“I’m not even familiar with the different types, light and dark,” said Charlie Roberts, president and CEO of the LSU Alumni Association, “but we joked and said we’d make a purple-and-gold beer” — LSU’s school colors.
